  • Health and Wellbeing week

    Mon 22 Jun 2015

    Health and Wellbeing week 2015

Monday June 22nd - Friday June 26th is our annual Health and Wellbeing week. And this year, it's even bigger and better than ever! We are committed as a school to playing our part in promoting healthy lifestyles and ensuring that the children's wellbeing is at the heart of all that we do. Health and wellbeing messages and learning take place regularly across the curriculum but we believe that having a themed week is a great way to really promote the importance of keeping healthy and well.

We have invited a range of professional organisations into school to support us in delivering this programme. We are pleased to welcome partnerships and activities with the Chris Foy (Football Premier League Referee) Liverpool Harriers (athletics), Super Athlete S7, Liverpool Tennis, Stagecoach Performing Arts, Nike and Wavertree Cricket Club.

We have specialist teachers/coaches to deliver yoga, metafit, orienteering, fencing and street dance which are all unusual and original activities to enhance our children's experiences and promote sport and being active.

Our staff have been trained to deliver kurling as a new game in PE so many classes will get to do this for the first time!

There are different sessions for Sports Day throughout the week. Year 3 and 4 have theirs on Tuesday morning. EYFS, Y1 and Y2 are on Thursday morning and the final sessions are for Year 5 and 6 on Thursday afternoon. Please remember to send children in team colours on this day if you can. Your child's teacher will make sure they know what team they are in and what colour this is.

    Harrison: Blue

    Lennon: Green

    McCartney: Yellow

    Starr: Red

As well as sporting activities, we have a range of health promotion and wellbeing activities in place across the school this week. Children will learn about healthy bodies and healthy minds, looking at food and nutrition, keeping safe, anti-bullying and e-safety amongst other things. Activities will take place from our massage programme and Deaf Active will be in to work with Year 6 again.

Children can wear sports kit every day, all week and should make sure they have full water bottles each day. If weather is sunny, we recommend putting sun cream on them and sun caps.

Classes will visit also our school allotment this week, to learn about growing fruit and vegetables.

On Friday, everyone is welcome to enter our 'Dress a Fruit/Vegetable' competition. Transform a fruit or vegetable into something else and bring it to school for fun.

    What a week!

Look out for photographs and tweets throughout the week @mosspitslane.

Your child will be taking part in a Super Athlete Day during Health and Well-being week starting 22nd June.  A sponsor form has already been sent home with your child that details the activities - football, dodgeball, basketball and long jump - and the prizes to be awarded by S7 Soccer Academy.  The majority of the money raised will go towards school funds.  Thank you in anticipation for your support in this event.

  • Year 6 Are Challenged To Make A Fiver Grow In A Month

Mon 01 Jun 2015 Mr Harbottle

We have launched the Fiver event with the Year 6 children. It was received with great enthusiasm, with many of the groups agreeing to meet up or email each other, over the Half Term holiday, to get a head start on the challenge.

The Fiver Challenge will take place during June using resources from the Fiver Challenge website to complete weekly challenges. The product or service offered by the group will be sold in the community, school and the Summer Fair (on the 26th June).

This is the second year of the Fiver Challenge, the first time Mosspits has been involved. We hope to develop the “Young Enterprise 8 employability skills”, which are:

Teamwork, Problem Solving, Financial Literacy, Confidence, Organisation, Communication, Resilience and Entrepreneurial Ability.

Mr Harbottle, the PSHEe Coordinator, is overseeing the challenge with the help of Mrs Murphy and Miss Kelly, the Year 6 teachers. He said, "I was really pleased at the initial response from our Year 6 pupils. They have already come up with some great products and services, some groups have decided to go into partnerships and some children are planning to ask their parents to become investors in their business. I look forward to see the profits coming in.”
