Supporting Reading at Home

Supporting Reading at Home.

As a core life skill, it is important that reading links between home and school are strong. On this page, you will find information about how school and home can work together to promote a lifelong love of reading.

When your child is participating in Read Write Inc, they will be set a copy of the book they have read in class online on Oxford Owl. They will also receive a ‘Book Bag Book.’ This is another text at the same phonics level, but is new to the child. Children also take home a ‘sharing book.’ This is a book that the children have chosen and would like to share with you at home. Video links to the Virtual Classroom will also be sent home to support your child in reading.

After completing the Read Write Inc Programme, children have access to Oxford Reading Buddy. Digital books and book quizzes are matched to a child’s reading ability. Children will also bring home a book they have chosen to read for pleasure.

Please support your child by making reading part of their daily routine. Books they have read should be recorded in their Reading Record and these should be sent into school.
