    Mandela Week

Liverpool charitable organisation Mandela8 is marking Mandela Day this year (on Saturday 18th July), by encouraging schools and students to take part in a whole week of activities from Monday 13th to Friday 17th July. These are aimed at promoting community cohesion and highlighting those who have been affected by the ongoing pandemic.

Mandela Day is a global call to action to make an impact. The campaign message is: "Nelson Mandela has fought for social justice for 67 years. We're asking you to start with 67 minutes."

Amongst the suggested activities for schools and students to get involved in are calls for community choirs to entertain residents in lockdown (whilst engaging in social distancing), as well as litter picking, planting trees, or your own ideas that essentially, are any acts of kindness for the community.

There is also an invitation to young people to express their feelings in response to Mandela's Struggle series of sketches. Inspired by these, young people can create their own art work that depicts their views on what the prints represent to them. These can be shared via Twitter @Mandela800 using the hashtags #My67Minutes and #Mandela8My67Minutes
