Annual Governance Statement for the Governing Body of Mosspits Lane Primary School.
In accordance with the Government’s requirement for all governing bodies, the 3 core strategic functions of Mosspits Lane Primary School Governing Body are:
1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos, values and strategic direction;
2. Holding the Head teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils;
3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
The Governing body is made up of 12 Governors:
1 Headteacher Governor, 2 Parent Governors, 1 Staff Governor, 7 Co-opted Governors, 1 Local Authority Governor
The Full Governing Body meets at least once each half term. We also have a Resources Committee to consider the financial and resourcing aspects of the school in detail, which meets each term separately. This committee is chaired by Mr. D. Owens, LA Governor.
As part of our full Governing Body meetings, we oversee the strategic direction of the school and act as critical friends, ensuring that the school is fulfilling its statutory duties and working in partnership for continuous improvement towards the objectives as set out in the school development plan.
A committee of Governors also works with the Local Authority School Improvement Partner to conduct the headteacher's performance management.
The Governing Body oversee the following:
The school's Care Culture and Ethos; for example updates the Health and Safety and SEND Policies, monitors and tracks attendance and oversees all aspects of Safeguarding. A. Nenham, B. Dorrance and E. Cheliotis are the nominated safeguarding Governors, who provide a termly report to the governors about any safeguarding matters and oversees the role of the Safeguarding Lead, Miss Joanne Phillips.
The school's Finances and Resources Committee; for example the maintenance and development of the school premises, making decisions about how the school should use its budget. One of the roles for the governors is reviewing and agreeing school policies, and this year we have considered a number of key policies.
For more information about the financial performance of our school, please see the Financial Benchmarking page:

The Teaching Learning and Standards; for example spending time evaluating the curriculum and discussing key data giving the results of pupil achievement and progress, so that they can be sure that the school is on track to fulfil its ambitious targets for all pupils. This committee continues to focus on “vulnerable groups” of children and looks at how the Pupil Premium and Sports Grants are spent by the school and what impact this has on the childrens' outcomes.
