    An Update – Oliver Beazant

Hi to all Parents, teachers and pupils associated with Mosspits Lane Primary School,

Initially, an update on Oliver Beazant given it's been 10 weeks since Oliver arrived back home from the United States and as you all may well know, Oliver is now back in school  trying to regain the normality he has lost over the past 9 months.

Myself, Jane and Oliver would like to express our gratitude and appreciation for the help and support that we received during this time.

All in all Oliver had 5 cycles of chemoptherapy (including 2 in Jacksonville) and a combined 34 radiotherapy and proton beam therapy treatments. Oliver has been extremely brave throughout the course of his treatment and we are so grateful of he financial and emotional support including all the messages from the people associated with Mosspits. We read out your messages to Oliver at his bedside when he was sick and it was very uplifting for him.

We are so happy and grateful to have him back home and the people inside and outside of Mosspits have made it so easier for ourselves and Oliver by integrating him slowly back into his daily school routine.

Oliver is still not completely over his ordeal, however we are very positive with his progress and he will undergo 6 months of Interferon injections to boost his immunity as his body is very weak after losing around 10 kilo during his treatment which he still hasn't yet regained. The Nutricia Nutrini milk feed will be given to Oliver overnight to boost his calories until his appetite completely improves. These Interferon injections will finish in October providing all goes to plan. Oliver had a slight setback 2 weeks ago when a faulty syringe became detached allowing the needle to fall into his leg.  Consequently, we followed doctor's advice for the needle to remain in his leg because it could do more harm than good if they open his leg to look for the needle which they may not find and there is risk of infection.

Furthermore Oliver recently had his initial Mri scan since arriving back from the United States and we are hoping for a positive result but it will take time for the treatment he had, to be effective however we are told that the tumour should gradually shrink over time.

We are all upbeat about Oliver's future and wish to thank everybody involved in the support of his road to recovery.

    Thanks again

    Colin, Jane and Oliver

    Summer Term 2016

    HEALTH AND WELLBEING WEEK

Dear Parents/Carers (and extended family members),

We plan to hold our annual Health and Wellbeing week, from Monday 20th to Friday 24th June 2016. We have an exciting itinerary so far including hula-hooping, hockey, athletics with Liverpool Harriers, metafit and street dance.

We're excited to invite Neil Danns, a British Skateboarding champion, to a school assembly and we will be fundraising for British Heart Foundation by organising a 'Big Skip' and 'Ultimate Dodgeball'. Look out for sponsor forms coming soon.

Can you help us? Do you have good contacts with sports and health organisations?

We are looking for any activities you could offer related to any of the following:

    • sports, games and fitness i.e. coaching/fitness sessions,
    • health advice/resources i.e. nutrition and cookery, handwashing, doctor/nurse/dentist
    • wellbeing i.e. mindfulness
    • personal/social i.e. police, fire service, e-safety messages/resources
    • science i.e. human body, effect of exercise
    • gardening/allotment

If you can help in any way, please get in touch. There's a letter in 'Letters' section for April, to fill in a reply slip.

We've already had lots of volunteers already so thank you for this!

  • E-safety online advice

    Mon 16 May 2016

As always, we urge parents to take an active role in monitoring your child's online use. We advise that you check the history of searches on the internet and take time to understand some of the content that children are using and what it entails.

We have recently encountered incidents in school where online apps have raised safety concerns for our pupils. One app in particular is called Omegle. Please be aware that this, like many others, are not designed for children and compromise their safety and wellbeing.

There are a number of excellent sites that parents can use for accessing support and advice in keeping your children safe online. The NSPCC, in particular, is a good source of information.

  • La journée française! Friday 20th May

Mon 16 May 2016 Miss Vernon

    Dear Parents and Carers,

On Friday 20th May children will be taking part in a whole school French day.

The children will learn about French composers and artists, explore famous French monuments and learn French rhymes and songs. We will also be joined by students from Liverpool Hope University who will be teaching the children all about French food and the Olympic games.

In the afternoon KS2 will be taking part in  'qui veut gagner des millions'. A French 'who wants to be a millionaire' style game show, where children will be showcasing their knowledge of French vocabulary and culture and competing against other classes.

On the day children can come to school wearing blue, white and red.

    Merci!

    Madame Vernon
