  • Liverpool Counts Quality Mark

Fri 16 Oct 2015 Miss Lisney

Following on from the Reading Quality Mark that Mosspits achieved earlier this year, the school has now been accepted onto an exciting new pilot project for 'Liverpool Counts' Numeracy for Life Quality Mark.  The quality mark wants to promote positive attitudes to numeracy as an essential life skill and not just to be used in the classroom.  During the next few months we will be looking at different ways to show the pupils that numeracy skills are used consistently in everyday life.

  • World Maths Day 2015

Fri 16 Oct 2015 Miss Lisney

Wednesday 14th October was World Maths Day and this year we decided on a rugby theme, due to the Rugby World Cup currently taking place in England.  The children took part in rugby themed maths challenges and solved maths problems involving rugby in the classroom and also using our large 'Maths on a Mat' in the hall.  Most of the year groups were also able to take part in a rugby session outside led by 2 rugby coaches.

Some photos from the day will be on the website soon.

  • European day of languages 2015

    Fri 25 Sep 2015 Miss H Vernon

la journée européenne des langues 2015

On Wednesday September 23rd, we celebrated European Day of Languages 2015. (This date actually fell onto the Saturday, so we decided to celebrate it a few days earlier.)

We had a range of creative enrichment activities taking place in school, all French-themed, as this is our school's chosen language of study. Pupils visited our cinéma français to enjoy some popular French-language films; Reception and Key Stage 1 enjoyed a viewing of 'princes et princesses' whilst Key Stage 2 watched 'tin tin et les 7 boules de cristal'.

Each class listened to a French story and continued to explore and practise their French language skills, Year 1 and 2 were lucky to have a visit from Monsieur Levy who read them the story 'Le grand mystère de la petite souris'. The children loved listening to French being spoken by a native French speaker and really enjoyed hearing about the French tradition of 'la petit souris' (In France children hear the story of the little mouse just like  we have the Tooth Fairy in England).

Classes explored different areas of French culture on the day. Reception enjoyed learning the names of the colours in French and had a French food tasting session. Year 1 listened to the famous 'le carnaval des animaux' by French composer Saint-Saëns and held their very own Carnival of the Animals in the hall. Year 2 and 3 classes explored the work of famous French artists Seurat and Rousseau and produced some excellent artwork inspired by the artists.

In Year 4 children investigated all the French speaking countries around the world and created natural sculptures based on famous French landmarks. Years 5 and 6 researched Paris and France using the Ipads and created their own tourist information videos.

Our French fun continued at lunch time with a French-themed school lunch in the canteen and games leaders taught children the traditional French playground game 'la marelle' on the playground.

We had a fantastic day, c'était incroyable!

  • Macmillan coffee morning raised £342.17!

    Fri 25 Sep 2015

On Friday 25thSeptember we held our annual Macmillan Coffee morning for the Macmillan Cancer Support Charity.

    342.17

We had an overwhelming response to our appeal for cake treats as donations - thank you so much for your generosity.

Many parents, carers and family members came along and enjoyed and drink and a cake and we had so much that we were able to involve the children too. Thank you also to our PA who sold the last few pieces on the yard after school.

    We raised a fantastic £342.17!

Many, many thanks to you all.

  • We're celebrating European Day of Languages

    Wed 09 Sep 2015

On Wednesday September 23rd, we'll be celebrating European Day of Languages 2015. (This date actually falls onto the Saturday, so we have decided to celebrate it a few days earlier.)

We have a range of creative enrichment activities taking place in school, all French-themed, as this is our school's chosen language of study. Pupils will watch French-language films, read French stories, play French playground games and learn about French culture and places. Classes will explore artists such as Seurat and Rousseau and composers such as Saint-Saens. Some classes will try French food and we also have French-themed school lunch available in the canteen (see lunch menu). We are also lucky enough to have a French family in our school community and Mr Levy has kindly offered to come in and work with some of our classes. What a great way to hear French being spoken and to learn about French culture first-hand.

We are in the process of setting up links with a school in France which we are very excited about. More details will follow.

Parents/carers - if you have any French language skills that you could offer of this day and would like to be involved, pleased contact me (email below).

    Kind regards,
