  • Saying 'Goodbye!'

    Thu 20 Oct 2016

We are sad to say goodbye this week to two of our staff.

Mrs Roberts, our school business manager, is retiring after 12 years at our school and Ken, our  crossing-patrol officer, is also leaving his post.

We would like to say a huge thank you to both for their dedicated service.

  • New Y1 and Y2 Magical Maths Club!

    Thu 20 Oct 2016

After the success of the first club at Mosspits, Professor Poopenshtinken, the mathematical genius, came back to visit us this week.

He amazed us again with his incredible brainpower. He led an assembly for our children where he challenged Mrs Owens (who was also helped by Dylan and Isobel) to a Maths Race to prove he is the greatest mathematician ever. The Professor used giant magical number rods and stunned Mrs Owens by adding four 3 digit numbers in his head more quickly than she could using a calculator. We thought the Professor had got one wrong but he somehow managed to add up four 3 digit numbers on the back of the rods that he hadn't even seen! The children were mesmerised! He told all the children that he could teach them to do the same tricks using only the power of numbers.

The Professor's friends will be coming back to school after half term (on Wednesdays starting 2nd November) to run super fun Magical Maths Clubs. This club is for Y1 and Y2 children and it will run for 6 consecutive weeks.

This club has all NEW games, tricks and puzzles. C

  • Health and Wellbeing Week 2016

    Mon 20 Jun 2016

    June 20th - 24th 2016

Health and Well-being week is back! Our children have been taking part in activities encouraging healthy lifestyles and physical and mental well-being. We have organised a range of enrichment activities across school for different age groups including hockey, performing arts, hula-hooping, kurling, cricket, metafit, street dance, tennis and an assembly based on safety in water.

As part of the week, we held a Disability Awareness Day on the Monday. We were joined by representatives from MENCAP and had coaches/parents sharing their experiences and skills in wheelchair basketball and blind cricket. Many children took part in asthma awareness workshops and dance/kurling activities with a focus on disability and how it shouldn't stop people accessing sports, fitness and health.

Find out more here, as Educate Magazine came in to do a feature on us:

    http://www.educatemagazine.com/inspirational-start-to-mosspits-health-week/

Children can wear sports clothing and footwear for the entire week; this does not necessarily need to be school PE kit.

Class activities will promote healthy choices such as looking at balanced diets, anti-smoking and being sun-safe and well-being activities such as peer massage, philosophy for children, anti-bullying, e-safety, stranger danger and team building.

On Friday 24th June, we will finish off with our exciting competition, Dress a Fruit/Vegetable, which was a huge success last year. All children are invited to participate. Those who wish to take part will need to bring their dressed vegetable in on the morning of Friday 24thJune. Please name your dressed vegetable (make it as funny as you like!) and ensure labels have your child’s name and class on it too. The entries last year were exceptional! (See letters section for pictures).

A special thank you also to our school Parents’ Association for contributing funds towards bringing in some of the specialist providers and to parents who have volunteered their time to deliver activities.

    Many thanks,

    Miss L. Warn

    An Update – Oliver Beazant

Hi to all Parents, teachers and pupils associated with Mosspits Lane Primary School,

Initially, an update on Oliver Beazant given it's been 10 weeks since Oliver arrived back home from the United States and as you all may well know, Oliver is now back in school  trying to regain the normality he has lost over the past 9 months.

Myself, Jane and Oliver would like to express our gratitude and appreciation for the help and support that we received during this time.

All in all Oliver had 5 cycles of chemoptherapy (including 2 in Jacksonville) and a combined 34 radiotherapy and proton beam therapy treatments. Oliver has been extremely brave throughout the course of his treatment and we are so grateful of he financial and emotional support including all the messages from the people associated with Mosspits. We read out your messages to Oliver at his bedside when he was sick and it was very uplifting for him.

We are so happy and grateful to have him back home and the people inside and outside of Mosspits have made it so easier for ourselves and Oliver by integrating him slowly back into his daily school routine.

Oliver is still not completely over his ordeal, however we are very positive with his progress and he will undergo 6 months of Interferon injections to boost his immunity as his body is very weak after losing around 10 kilo during his treatment which he still hasn't yet regained. The Nutricia Nutrini milk feed will be given to Oliver overnight to boost his calories until his appetite completely improves. These Interferon injections will finish in October providing all goes to plan. Oliver had a slight setback 2 weeks ago when a faulty syringe became detached allowing the needle to fall into his leg.  Consequently, we followed doctor's advice for the needle to remain in his leg because it could do more harm than good if they open his leg to look for the needle which they may not find and there is risk of infection.

Furthermore Oliver recently had his initial Mri scan since arriving back from the United States and we are hoping for a positive result but it will take time for the treatment he had, to be effective however we are told that the tumour should gradually shrink over time.

We are all upbeat about Oliver's future and wish to thank everybody involved in the support of his road to recovery.

    Thanks again

    Colin, Jane and Oliver

We are looking for any activities you could offer related to any of the following:

  • E-safety online advice

    Mon 16 May 2016

As always, we urge parents to take an active role in monitoring your child's online use. We advise that you check the history of searches on the internet and take time to understand some of the content that children are using and what it entails.

We have recently encountered incidents in school where online apps have raised safety concerns for our pupils. One app in particular is called Omegle. Please be aware that this, like many others, are not designed for children and compromise their safety and wellbeing.

There are a number of excellent sites that parents can use for accessing support and advice in keeping your children safe online. The NSPCC, in particular, is a good source of information.

  • La journée française! Friday 20th May

Mon 16 May 2016 Miss Vernon

    Dear Parents and Carers,

On Friday 20th May children will be taking part in a whole school French day.

The children will learn about French composers and artists, explore famous French monuments and learn French rhymes and songs. We will also be joined by students from Liverpool Hope University who will be teaching the children all about French food and the Olympic games.

In the afternoon KS2 will be taking part in  'qui veut gagner des millions'. A French 'who wants to be a millionaire' style game show, where children will be showcasing their knowledge of French vocabulary and culture and competing against other classes.

On the day children can come to school wearing blue, white and red.

    Merci!

    Madame Vernon

  • Oliver's Cause - an update

    Mon 21 Mar 2016

Oliver Beazant – Liverpool Echo 15th February 2016

    Dear Parents,

You may have seen an article in the Liverpool Echo (15th February 2016) about one of our pupils, Oliver Beazant in Year 5.

Oliver is undergoing lifesaving treatment for a rare cancer of the head, neck and throat. He has had to go to Jacksonville in Florida, USA for Proton Beam Therapy treatment as there is no Proton treatment centre in the UK. Oliver has been there since early January and after undergoing 36 treatments he will return in late March / early April. His parents have had to give up work but still need to meet their living expenses whilst in Florida. To help fund this Oliver’s father has set up a gofundme page in order for donations to be made to support the family over the next few months.

Mosspits Lane Primary School is also trying to help Oliver and his family by collecting donations. We are very proud to say that £1800 has been raised, which included £500 from the local Rotary Club. Thank you so much for your support; it means a lot to us.

If you would still like to make a donation either visit the gofundme page at https://www.gofundme.com/oliverbeazant

    Kind regards,

    Miss Everitt
