We are very proud that some of our Year 5 children have their African masks displayed on the Dot-art schools website as part of the Dot-art schools Art Competition 2017.
The dot-art Schools programme Liverpool is an interactive, online, inter-school art competition, culminating in an end of year exhibition for the top students in each participating school. During the Autumn and Spring terms, each school creates and selects pieces of student work which they feel best represent the talents of their students. These art works are submitted and put on display to the world via the dot-art Schools website (schools.dot-art.com).
A panel of art experts will select the top 3 artworks from each school. Students from all the schools in the programme, as well as the general public, will then be able to vote for their favourite piece of art from the judge's shortlist here (from 1st-30th April):

During the Summer term, an exhibition will be held at a city centre art gallery showcasing the artwork with the most votes from each participating school. The overall winners of the 2016 dot-art Schools Competition will be announced at a prize-giving ceremony on 15th June in the spectacular Concert Room at St Georges Hall, where the top three students from each of the participating schools in the Liverpool City Region will be presented with a certificate by the Lord Mayor of Liverpool and the six overall winners and runners up will receive their prizes.

Science Week 2017
It's SCIENCE WEEK in school, week beginning 6th March and we are very excited about what we have planned. For 2017, we have chosen to focus on Plants as our main theme, although there is much more to our week than plant life alone.
We have as-creatives coming to school to deliver creative Science workshops, including Pirate Science! Pupils will meet Captain Morgan who will take them on a journey to explore floating/sinking, density, upthrust, nutrition, skeletal structure and blood clotting, amongst other things!
Year 6 will be linking up with the University of Liverpool to use their state-of-the-art microscopes. We will look forward to some fascinating findings.
As our main theme is plants, we will be making sure that the school allotment is full of groups of children planting the first of our Spring seeds.
Bring in your pajamas, dressing gowns, slippers and cuddly toys for a bedtime story for World Book Day 2017. You might want to bring in your favourite bedtime storybook too.
We held our NSPCC Number Day in school on Friday 3rd February 2017.
This was Maths-themed across the school with a focus on using Maths across the curriculum. In Year 5, children practised mental maths in French! C'est CALCUL MENTAL!
Year 6 worked with Dot-art artist, Eimer Kavanagh on a Maths through Art project - the outcomes are fantastic!
Year 4 and 5 were well challenged to do a range of Maths puzzles and logic problems with Paul Godding from the 7puzzle company.
Children also came to school in a Maths theme for a donation to NSPCC. - This included numbers, patterns, shape, symmetry, lines and angles. We are proud to say we raised £349.48 - thank you all so much for generous donations!
What a fantastic day it was! Maths EVERYWHERE!
Chinese New Year celebrations 2017
Year of the Rooster
A fantastic day was enjoyed across our school for Chinese New Year. We welcomed lots of visitors to enrich learning of Chinese culture and we celebrated Chinese New Year in style!
The day started with a fantastic dance solo performance from Pei Tong from Movema Dance. This was followed by a set of dance workshops for Year 3 and Year 6 across the day.
Li Wei from China Pearl joined Year 4 and 5 for a day of calligraphy, using inks and rice paper. Li also talked to the children about growing up in China and the importance of being together as a family at new year. Celebrations last 15 days, she told us!
Gill Orrett taught RS and RC a brilliant dragon dance which was watched by the Year 1 classes.
Finally, we were pleased to welcome students from the Confucius Institute at Liverpool University, who worked with EYFS and Year 2 classes on Chinese writing, language activities and origami.
See our Gallery for photographs of the day.
We had a visit from Bullybusters on 24th January 2017. All children came to the hall in groups to hear stories about being kind to others. The message is 'We are all different but we all have feelings. If you are worried about something that is happening to you, or someone else, you need to tell someone, preferably an adult.'
Natalie is coming to do workshops with Y5 on 13th February as a follow up.
We were SO excited to have Lora Turnham visit us during December, to show us the gold medal she won in the Rio 2016 Paralympic games as a para-cyclist.
Lora, an ex-pupil of Mosspits, suffers from a hereditary sight loss condition which also affects her two brothers and her mother. When she was just five years old she lost her sight leaving her with only light perception and she relies on her guide dog Libby, to get around.
Lora gave a fantastic talk to all of our pupils and truly inspired the staff and children with the underlying message of how you should never give up on what you believe in and work hard to achieve your dreams.
Here are Lora's achievements in 2016 alone:
UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships, Montichiari (Italy)
Bronze, Pursuit (with Corrine Hall)
UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup, Ostend (Belgium)
Silver, Road race (with Corinne Hall)
Silver, Time trial (with Corinne Hall)
Paralympic Games, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)
Gold, Pursuit (with Corrine Hall)
Bronze, Time trial (with Corrine Hall)

We hope that she can keep in touch and return to school at a later date!
This year (between the 14th and 27th November) many schools across the country will be taking part in ‘Switch Off Fortnight’, the national energy saving campaign.
We will be sending members of the geography club to deliver 'switch off' monitor badges for 2 children in each class. They will be responsible for ensuring lights, smartboards, laptops, computers, switches etc are all switched off or on power-saving mode when not in use.
Switch off monitors will get an energy saving log so they can complete a survey of the school and go on an energy saving mission to find out where and when devices are wasting energy. Classes will also monitor and analyse the data from this in Maths lessons.
We'll have certificates of achievement to give out if children actively taking part in the campaign and we are giving out some stickers to promote the campaign.
Could you take part at home? Tweet us and let us know what you are doing at @mkellygeography
Thanks and Happy Switch Off!
The Geography Club.
